Training Update
On the 4th I joined 55,000 of my closest friends and participated in the Peachtree Road Race (10 K Run). This has been one of my “benchmark” training events every time I have planned to do the Breast Cancer 3 Day (send me money). I am proud to say that the total 8 mile walk took no great toll on my feet or legs. I seem to be on track with my training and now just need to concentrate on my fundraising (send me money).
To those of you who will say “hey man, a 10K is only 6.2 how can you say you walked 8?” let me explain. Since traffic in ATL sucks on any given day, imagine 55K people all going to the same place at the same time. I took our rapid transit system MARTA. The train left me at a point where it was about a good half mile to get to the gathering point for my “time group”. Needless to say I was in the back of the pack. The race started at 7:30. At 8:30 my group was allowed to start walking to the start line. At 9:00 we reached the line and were allowed to start “running”. Folks this was the group for those not lame enough to be in the wheelchair event. After the 6.2 miles, I had to walk trough the park to pick up my coveted T-Shirt and then about 1.5 miles to the train station to go home. It was a full day.
Observations from the back of the pack:
Spandex should not be sold as one size fits most or in XXL.
Folks who think that you will see a lot of hard bodied runners at a 10K don’t run in my time group.
Hey dude sitting on the sidewalk, we don’t look great and oh by the way we know we aren’t going to win the race. Have another beer.
If you want to shoot water on me, please avoid my feet. 3 miles in soggy socks can hurt.
Lady, I cannot believe that you are walking down the street in this event talking on you cell phone.
When we got to the finish line they only had XL and XXL shirts. Trust me, in my time group that is what we all needed.
Anyway, training is on track. Fundraising is lagging. Send me money!!!!
