Elizabeth Edwards

If you don't live under a rock, you know that Elizabeth Edwards (wife of John Edwards -- Presidential candidate) has had a re-occurance of her breast cancer. Please keep her, her three children, and her husband in your prayers. Her courage to publicly live through the stages of this insidious disease is to be admired and commended. Every time I walk the 3 Day I carry the names of specific people written on my visor. I have just added hers.
Each year thousands of women around the world receive news just as devastating as Ms Edwards' has received. "It's back" has got to be a bone chilling phrase to hear when you think you have beaten the beast. Few women have the public eye and sympathy on/with them and must suffer through their journey alone. I also carry on my visor the phrase "and for the survivors I do not know".
Hopefully Ms Edwards visibility will help raise awareness and encourage women to get checked out and catch the darkness in an early stage. Awareness -- short of a cure -- is what the 3 Day is all about. The money we raise goes to education programs in disadvantaged communities as well as to research. You all know what is coming next:

Coincidence

Had to fly somewhere this week. Travel is really not my favorite thing in the world but sometimes ya gotta get out of town. Anyway when I got on the return flight I noticed my seatmate was wearing a pink ribbon. I commented, thanked her for her support in the fight, and showed her my 3 Day bracelet. She told me that she was going to participate this year in Philly!!!! HOW COOL IS THAT??
We talked a little about the event, my past 3 and what she could expect. I told her that she is going to have the time of her life -- and she will.
Anyway, to my seatmate of last night: Train hard, Raise lots and lots of $$, and be prepared for three of the most inspirational days of your life.

WOW (and I don't mean World Of Warcraft)

What a response. I sent out my first beg email and BOOM I have money coming in left and right!! At this point in time I know we will be successful in raising my initiation fee.
Bobby, Gail, Robyn, Terry!! Thanks for jumping on the bandwagon so soon.
You guys (all of you) are awesome. I can hardly wait to strap on my shues and get this old body in shape for the walk.

And So It Starts

I sent out my first donation email this morning. I was not disappointed to learn this afternoon that once again a good buddy has kicked off my campaign by doubling his last donation. Now that is what I call support.
Now if only everyone would do the same (and for you guys who are about to point out that two times zero is still zero, get off of your funny bones and dig out your wallet.
